"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.” John 15:12-13
Today over 1 billion dollars will be spent on chocolate alone in an attempt to express love. When you add the flowers, cards, dinners and other gifts it is no secret many people love Valentine’s Day.
Yet, there are many people who do not like Valentine’s Day because of the cultural pressure it can bring upon those who may not have a spouse, partner or special friend at this time in their life.
The truth is LOVE is not based on whether you are in a significant romantic relationship or not. LOVE is the willingness to put another person’s well-being and very life before your own. Jesus lived a life of absolute love, yet there is no historical evidence he was ever in a romantic relationship. Instead of searching high and low for a “perfect mate” Jesus spent his life remaining connected to God and through this relationship he found a love for humanity that made his life fulfilling beyond belief.
Jesus, through his spirit connection with God, fell so in love with us that he was willing to give his very life to show us the depth of God’s love for us. So, today I want to challenge you to reach out to someone you love. Ask God to show you one person who might need to hear the words “I LOVE YOU” today and take the time to stop what you are doing and put them first.
Maybe it’s your mother or father, maybe it is a sibling that you haven’t spoken to in a while, maybe it’s a friend from many years ago that you’ve been thinking about lately. Whoever it is, give them a call and tell them “I just want you to know I love you……………and so does God!”
My friend, whether you are single, dating, partnered or married, we are all called by Jesus Christ to love one another………. on this day and every day hereafter! Happy Valentine’s Day
