A Prayer for Christmastide
In Advent we have called to you: O come, O come, Emmanuel,
called you with quiet yearning or urgent seeking, sometimes in desperate need.
You are the cry of our hearts, the cry of the church, the cry of the world.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
In your coming, wipe away all tears from our eyes.
In your coming, heal our blindness and set us free.
In your coming, make all things new.
In your coming, fill us with your peace that we may study war no more,
that we may lay it all down, sword and shield. Lay it all down.*
And as you are born once again, we pray that you will abide with us and in us,
Let us, growing from the vine of your Love, become strong and supple,
branches of compassion reaching out, sheltering the vulnerable.
O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice,
shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death.**
Burn in our hearts that we may create your bright new day.
Come, Lord Jesus, Come!
