SCRIPTURE
Heb. 8:1-7
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, says God, that you make all things according to the pattern shown to you in the mount. But now has he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place should have been sought for the second.
WORDS OF HOPE
A Better Promise
Prepare by placing yourself in the Presence of God taking a deep breath, breathing in goodness and light and then exhale slowly ridding yourself of personal concerns and troubles. And then do it all again calming your thoughts, clearing your mind to be able to listen better.
In this passage of sacred Scripture we see a classical comparison of the promise made to Moses and the promise made in and through Christ. We have a “new” promise and, indeed, a better one.
The Holy of Holies is in Heaven and not on earth. It is where Christ sits at the right hand of God and where His sacrifice is the last needed to reconcile all humankind and the earth to God for all time. In this letter to the Hebrews, Paul assures them that there is a new High Priest who resides in heaven and pleads on our behalf.
There is no need to look for a new Promise or another Promise. It is done. We are not going to be redeemed, we have been redeemed. How do you manifest this fact in your life? How do we participate in this salvific act?
PRAYER
O Holy One! It is hard to believe that you have loved us so much that you gave your Child as an example to us living on earth. How grateful that we are alive to experience such a grace in our life each day. What a privilege we have to be able to share the love of Christ with all those who cross our path both personally and professionally. Help us to be true to the Promise and become more like you each day.
We make this prayer in your many names, O Holy One! Amen!
